Jesus had brothers?

The Aramaic language had no separate terms for individual relatives: brothers could be the family in general and, in particular, cousins \u200b\u200b (in Genesis 13: 8 means grandchildren, 1Cron 23, 22 cousins). The Greek version of the Old Testament of the Septuagint translates adelphos , brother, even when they are cousins. No wonder the greek of the Gospels has often retained the stamp of the original Aramaic catechesis. The brothers of the Lord became an almost stereotypical title for the group of relatives of Jesus (Acts 1: 14, Gal 1, 19, 1 Cor 9, 5). The Catechism of the Catholic Church No 500 states: "The Church has always believed that these steps do not indicate any other children of the Virgin Mary, in fact James and Joseph," brothers of Jesus "(Matt. 13:55), are the sons of a Mary disciple of Christ, which is significantly designated as "the other Mary" (Mt 28,1). " From

no Gospel text can be inferred that Mary, mother of Jesus, had other children or siblings who may be sons of Joseph in any previous marriage.
An indirect, but I fundamentally believe we can draw from the answer that Jesus gives to those who inform him of the presence of his mother and his brethren (Mt 12, 46-50): "Who is my mother and who are my brothers ... Whoever does the will of my Father ... he is my brother and sister and mother." Jesus proposes a universal brotherhood, based on being children of the Father, in His likeness, that does not erase the brotherhood of blood, but above and beyond "in a radical ties, the source of that carnal relationship.
